Biography



Jennifer Northrup aka “The Candid Librarian” is currently a school librarian in Metro Atlanta serving grades 3-5. She previously served as the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction West and Southwest Regional Digital Teaching and Learning Consultant and NCWiseOwl Support. Jennifer’s career in education began as a classroom teacher after graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in Middle Grades Education. She went on to earn National Board Certification and Masters' degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and East Carolina University in Library and Information Science and Instructional Technology. Jennifer’s experience as a classroom teacher and school library media coordinator informed her practice at the Department of Public Instruction. In addition to strengthening school library media and technology programs through the Digital Teaching and Learning division, Jennifer is an avid blogger and served as a keynote speaker for the Alabama School Library Association’s 2014 summer conference.

As a former middle school librarian Jennifer worked to collaborate with teachers to create meaningful learning experiences for students. In 2011, she along with a colleague were recognized for a collaborative project by placing third in the first annual Follett Challenge.

Jennifer also is one of the co-founders of the Twitter book club formerly known as #2jennsbookclub. Together with Jennifer LaGarde, aka Library Girl, she shared the love of YA literature with other librarians and teachers.
